The Fude, or brush in english.

  The Brush or fude, are like loyal friends each one has its own personality that develops with each stroke. Its own history, and story. They are among the most sensitive of all artistic instruments. A fude entrusted in the hands of a calligraphy artist is a zenbiotic relationship that is developed between artist and the personality of the fude.

  Most traditional japanese brushes have bamboo handles and bristles made of the hair of animals such as, goat, sheep. deer, raccoon. hoarse ect. 

       Sumi is a black ink made of soot obtained from burning old pine trees or vegitable oil.                Sumi made from pine trees is called shouen-boku and has a blue-black color.

  Washi, hand made Japanese paper. dating back before the Meiji era (1864-1912) was made primarily of tree bark fiber. paper making was adopted in the 5th and 6th centuries from china along with Buddhism. The technique was introduced in the 7th century and as time passed the Japanese modified the technique and made the paper tougher than the chinese paper.
